Tallahassee, FL – Dangerous heat will grip Tallahassee and the entire Big Bend region Friday, with heat index values soaring as high as 111° by mid-afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that hot, humid conditions will make outdoor activities hazardous across North Florida and South Georgia through 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Friday for the Panhandle, Big Bend, and southwest Georgia counties, including Gadsden, Leon, Wakulla, Lowndes, and Decatur. The combination of high temperatures and stifling humidity will push heat index readings into triple digits, raising the risk of heat illnesses.
In Tallahassee, the heat index could reach 107° by late afternoon, with actual temperatures peaking near 96°. Similar conditions are expected for Quincy, Bainbridge, Valdosta, and Apalachicola, where outdoor workers, athletes, and those without air conditioning should take extra precautions.
Health officials urge residents to limit time outdoors, reschedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Roads, schools, and public events may see delays or early closures as heat stress increases.
The oppressive conditions mirror last summer’s August heatwave, which strained regional power grids and led to multiple hospitalizations. With thunderstorms possible each afternoon, humidity will remain high, offering little overnight relief.
Heat advisories may be extended into the weekend as temperatures stay above average. Stay tuned to local alerts, and avoid non-essential travel during peak heat hours.
