Tallahassee, FL – A Freeze Warning is in effect for Tallahassee and much of the Florida Panhandle, south Georgia, and southeast Alabama, as temperatures are expected to plunge into the low 20s overnight Monday into Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 23 degrees are forecast between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday, prompting an upgrade from a Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning. The warning includes inland portions of North Florida, southwest and south-central Georgia, and southeast Alabama.
Meteorologists say this will be one of the coldest nights of the season, with widespread frost and hard freeze conditions likely in rural and inland areas. Even urban centers, including Tallahassee, could see several hours below freezing before sunrise Tuesday.
The cold snap poses a threat to sensitive crops, tender vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Agricultural areas across Georgia and Alabama may experience crop damage if protective measures are not taken. Officials also warn that exposed pipes and irrigation systems could freeze or burst.
In northeast Florida and southeast Georgia, a separate Freeze Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Tuesday, with overnight lows expected to dip into the mid-20s inland and near 31 degrees along coastal communities such as Camden and Glynn counties.
Residents are urged to bring pets indoors, cover or move sensitive plants, and wrap or drip outdoor pipes. Those with in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them ahead of the freeze.
Forecasters say temperatures will rebound later Tuesday afternoon, but additional cold mornings are possible later this week. Residents should continue to monitor local forecasts and updates from the National Weather Service.
