Tallahassee, Florida – A wave of heat will grip the tri-state region through Memorial Day, with cities like Tallahassee, Valdosta, and Tifton expected to hit 95°F to 96°F through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the heat will intensify beginning Friday, May 23, and remain elevated through at least Tuesday, May 27. Valdosta and Tallahassee are forecast to peak at 96°F on Sunday and Monday, with much of south Georgia and the Florida Big Bend climbing into the mid-90s daily.
In Bainbridge and Cuthbert, highs may reach 95°F for three consecutive days. Dothan and DeFuniak Springs in southeast Alabama will hover near 93°F to 94°F, while coastal cities like Apalachicola and Panama City stay slightly cooler in the mid-80s. Despite lower readings near the Gulf, high humidity could push heat index values above 100°F inland.
Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and wear sunscreen—especially during Memorial Day events. Power companies recommend reducing energy usage during peak hours to avoid strain on the grid.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly by midweek, but advisories may be issued if the heat index rises. Stay tuned to local alerts as the holiday weekend approaches.
