Florida – A Frost Advisory remains in effect early Friday for portions of Florida’s central Gulf Coast, where near-freezing temperatures could lead to frost formation before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay–Ruskin, temperatures as low as 33 to 35 degrees are expected between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. EST Friday. The advisory includes coastal and inland Levy County as well as inland Citrus County.
Communities affected include Williston, Chiefland, Bronson, Cedar Key, Yankeetown, and Inverness. Clear skies and light winds overnight are expected to allow temperatures to fall enough for patchy frost, especially in low-lying and rural areas.
Forecasters warn that frost could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected. Tender plants, citrus trees, and exposed landscaping are most vulnerable during the coldest hours around daybreak.
Residents are encouraged to cover sensitive plants, move potted vegetation indoors if possible, and ensure irrigation systems are protected. While widespread hard freezes are not expected, even brief exposure to near-freezing temperatures can cause localized plant damage.
The frost threat is expected to diminish shortly after sunrise as temperatures rebound later Friday morning. No additional cold weather alerts are currently in effect beyond this advisory period, though residents should continue monitoring local forecasts for updates.
