Melbourne, Florida – A Frost Advisory is in effect early Wednesday morning for parts of inland central Florida, where temperatures near freezing are expected to lead to frost formation and potential damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, the advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Wednesday. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to drop to around 33 degrees, creating favorable conditions for frost development.
The advisory applies to Inland Volusia County and Northern Lake County. Communities within the advisory area include Mount Dora, Tavares, Eustis, Leesburg, Deltona, DeLand, and DeBary.
Frost typically forms when temperatures fall near freezing under light winds and clear or partly cloudy skies. The National Weather Service cautions that frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, and unprotected tender plants may be damaged or killed if left exposed during the advisory period.
While a hard freeze is not expected, even brief frost conditions can impact gardens, landscaping, and agricultural interests, particularly in inland and low-lying areas where colder air can settle overnight. Residents are encouraged to take steps now to protect tender plants, such as covering vegetation or moving potted plants indoors.
Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Wednesday, allowing frost to dissipate by mid-morning. No travel impacts are anticipated as a result of this advisory.
The National Weather Service will continue to monitor overnight temperatures and issue updates if conditions change. Residents should check local forecasts for location-specific details and timing.
