Jacksonville, Florida – A Frost Advisory is in effect early Wednesday morning across portions of north central and interior northeast Florida, where near-freezing temperatures are expected to result in frost formation and potential damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation.

According to the National Weather Service office in Jacksonville, the advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST Wednesday. Overnight low temperatures are forecast to fall to around 32 degrees, creating favorable conditions for frost development.

The advisory includes Gilchrist County, Eastern and Western Alachua County, Eastern and Western Putnam County, and Central, Eastern, and Western Marion County. Communities within the advisory area include Gainesville, Ocala, Trenton, Newberry, High Springs, Palatka, Archer, Bostwick, Weirsdale, Anthony, Moss Bluff, and surrounding inland locations.

Frost can form when temperatures approach freezing under light winds and clear or partly cloudy skies. The National Weather Service warns that frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, and unprotected tender plants may be damaged or killed if left exposed during the advisory period.

While a widespread hard freeze is not anticipated, inland and rural areas are especially susceptible to colder temperatures overnight. Residents are encouraged to take steps now to protect tender plants, including covering vegetation, moving potted plants indoors, or using other protective measures.

Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Wednesday, allowing frost to dissipate by mid-morning. No travel impacts are expected from this advisory.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if the advisory area or timing changes. Residents are encouraged to check local forecasts at weather.gov/jax for location-specific information.
