Tampa, Florida — The coldest air of the season is arriving overnight, prompting a Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory for much of west central and southwest Florida into Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay office, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for most of the region, excluding some central and southern coastal areas and select inland zones. A Cold Weather Advisory covers all of west central and southwest Florida.

Forecast lows are expected to fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s, with temperatures ranging from 28 to 32 degrees in the coldest locations. Wind chills between 22 and 35 degrees will make it feel even colder, especially during the early morning hours.

The National Weather Service warns that freezing temperatures can damage sensitive vegetation, harm pets, and cause pipes to freeze if not properly protected. Residents are urged to take precautions by covering plants, bringing pets indoors, and insulating exposed plumbing.

Forecasters say the cold weather will linger through the weekend and into early next week, keeping overnight temperatures well below seasonal averages across much of the region.

Residents should continue to monitor official National Weather Service updates for any changes or extensions to warnings and advisories as the cold spell continues.
