Tallahassee, FL – A rare late-season freeze is set to grip the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, and parts of south Georgia overnight, with temperatures falling low enough to damage crops before sunrise Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. EDT Wednesday until 8 a.m. EDT across a wide region spanning Tallahassee, Valdosta, Albany, Dothan, and surrounding communities. Overnight lows are expected to dip to 28 degrees, cold enough to threaten sensitive vegetation and unprotected plumbing.

The coldest window will occur between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., when calm winds and clear skies allow temperatures to fall rapidly across inland areas, including Leon, Gadsden, Lowndes, Dougherty, and Houston counties. Rural locations and agricultural zones face the highest risk for widespread frost.

Residents are urged to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor pipes. Farmers across south Georgia and the Florida Big Bend should take immediate steps to shield early spring crops from potential damage.

Temperatures will rebound quickly after sunrise Wednesday, but additional cold mornings remain possible, keeping freeze concerns active across the region.
