Melbourne, Florida – Florida’s Fourth of July weekend could be soggy, as a disturbance off the Southeast U.S. coast brings increased rain and a 40% chance of tropical development through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a broad area of low pressure may form near the Atlantic or eastern Gulf coasts over the weekend. The system has a medium chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical cyclone over the next seven days, but forecasters say heavy rain and localized flooding are likely regardless of development.
Parts of central and eastern Florida — including Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and West Palm Beach — could see persistent showers and embedded downpours beginning Wednesday. Rain chances will remain elevated through Sunday, July 7, potentially disrupting outdoor events and beach travel.
Emergency managers urge residents and visitors to monitor forecasts, avoid flooded roads, and prepare for changing weather during the holiday. Boaters and coastal travelers should be especially cautious, as seas may become rough even without a named storm.
The National Hurricane Center continues to track the disturbance. Additional updates or advisories may be issued if the system organizes more rapidly than expected.
