Miami, Florida – Drivers across South Florida should brace for hazardous road conditions starting Monday morning as steady, heavy rain threatens to flood low-lying areas from Miami to Fort Lauderdale.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Flood Watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Monday through 8 a.m. Tuesday. The region is under a slight risk for excessive rainfall, with widespread totals of 3 to 6 inches expected, and isolated areas—especially near the Everglades and coastal zones—potentially receiving up to 8 inches.

Urban flooding is likely in cities including Homestead, West Palm Beach, and Naples, where storm drains may quickly become overwhelmed. Creeks and canals in areas such as Immokalee and Clewiston could rise rapidly, and roadways like US-1 and I-75 (Alligator Alley) may experience ponding or closures.

Officials urge residents to avoid non-essential travel during peak rainfall hours and not to drive through flooded roads. Charge electronics in advance and monitor local alerts, especially in mobile homes or flood-prone zones.

Rainfall is expected to taper off by early Tuesday, but additional watches or warnings could be issued depending on storm development overnight. Stay tuned to local advisories for updates.
