Miami, Fla. – More flooding is likely across South Florida today as another round of heavy rain targets already saturated urban areas in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday morning. A developing low-pressure system will continue to pump moisture across the region, with 2 to 4 additional inches of rain expected — and localized totals potentially topping 6 inches in spots hit hardest on Monday. Some areas already recorded 8 inches of rain yesterday, causing dangerous street flooding and overwhelmed drainage systems.
In Miami, Hialeah, and Kendall, standing water could return to low-lying roads, while in Fort Lauderdale and Pembroke Pines, storm drains may struggle to keep up with the runoff. Coastal Collier, including Naples and Marco Island, may also see ponding on roads and flash flooding in poor drainage zones.
Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets, charge electronic devices in case of outages, and monitor alerts. Emergency management teams in each county are coordinating with local agencies for possible water rescues or road closures.
The Flood Watch is scheduled to expire by 8 a.m. Wednesday, but additional advisories could follow if rain persists.
