Tampa, FL – A flood watch remains in effect for the Tampa Bay area through Thursday, with forecasters warning of up to 10 inches of rain expected by midweek. Coastal roads, including I-275 and U.S. 41, are at high risk for flooding as heavy rainfall continues. The National Weather Service (NWS) urges residents to stay alert for potential flash floods and road closures.

According to the NWS, the heaviest rains will begin Tuesday afternoon as Hurricane Milton approaches, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall totals could reach 5 to 10 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 15 inches. With storm drains already filling, significant flooding may occur, especially in low-lying regions near the coast.

Monday’s forecast includes scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, with gusts reaching 21 mph. These conditions are expected to worsen on Tuesday, when hurricane-force winds and heavy downpours could cause extensive damage. Residents are advised to prepare now by securing property and monitoring official updates on possible evacuation orders.

By Wednesday, the storm will bring tropical storm conditions, with winds nearing 40 mph and more showers. Though some improvement is expected by Thursday evening, the region may still experience lingering rainfall and flood risks. Drivers should avoid flooded roads, particularly in areas along I-275, and stay updated on road closures throughout the week.
