Orlando, FL – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of east central Florida, with weather conditions expected to rapidly elevate wildfire risks through 7 p.m. Friday.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, the warning includes Orange, Osceola, Okeechobee, Indian River, Saint Lucie, Martin, and Brevard counties. The advisory was issued early Friday morning and replaces a previous Fire Weather Watch.
The region is facing north to northwest winds sustained around 15 mph, with gusts reaching 20 mph through the afternoon. Combined with relative humidity levels dipping as low as 20 percent, the environment is primed for rapid fire spread.
Officials warn that any outdoor flames or embers could ignite surrounding brush or vegetation quickly, posing serious risks for homes and infrastructure. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents are urged to secure flammable materials.
The Red Flag Warning remains in place until 7 p.m. Friday, covering both coastal and inland zones. These conditions are uncommon for late March in Florida but have become increasingly possible during extended dry spells.
Fire departments and emergency services across the affected counties are on alert. Residents should monitor local advisories and postpone any open burning activities.
