Tampa, FL – Temperatures across Florida are plunging, with the Tampa Bay area under a Cold Weather Advisory until 9 a.m. Monday. Wind chills as low as 25°F are expected, prompting safety precautions for outdoor activities and travel.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tampa Bay, a mix of cool northerly winds and dry air will keep temperatures in the upper 40s across northern coastal areas and low 60s in Sarasota. Residents in Pinellas, Hillsborough, and surrounding counties should dress warmly and limit outdoor exposure during early morning hours.

A High Rip Current Risk is also in effect through Tuesday morning for beaches in Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Manatee counties. The NWS warns that rip currents could sweep swimmers away from the shore. Beachgoers are urged to swim near lifeguards and avoid entering the water if unsure of conditions.

Looking ahead, partly sunny skies will bring some relief by Martin Luther King Jr. Day, with highs reaching the mid-50s in Tampa. Showers are likely Monday night through Tuesday, with up to 80% chance of rain and highs near 57°F. By Wednesday, temperatures will remain cool, with scattered showers and highs in the low 50s.

Residents should monitor weather updates and take precautions, including keeping pets indoors, wearing layered clothing, and avoiding water-related activities during the rip current alert. For roadways like I-275 and U.S. 41, caution is advised, especially during cold morning commutes.
