Fort Myers, FL – Detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) are renewing efforts to solve the 1984 murder of James Chambers, an Ohio man who was found shot to death along Interstate 75, just south of Corkscrew Road, more than four decades ago.
According to SWFL Crime Stoppers, Chambers had only been in Lee County for one day when he was killed. On August 10, 1984, he was last seen leaving The Witch’s Brew, a lounge in North Naples, around 10:30 p.m. The next morning, deputies discovered him dead inside his car, which was found partially pulled over on the roadside.
Investigators said Chambers had been shot multiple times and his car window was partially rolled down, suggesting he may have been stopped by someone impersonating a police officer. His wallet had been stolen, indicating robbery as a possible motive.
The case has remained unsolved for 41 years, but authorities hope renewed attention — and a $5,000 reward — will bring new information forward.
Anyone with tips is urged to contact SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) or submit information anonymously at southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com.
