Palatka, FL – Putnam County is launching its annual donation drive for the Sheriff’s Office “Shop With a Deputy” program, a holiday tradition now entering its seventh year and expanding due to growing community support.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, deputies hope to assist 25 local teenagers this season—up from 18 last year. The teens are selected through partnerships with Guardian ad Litem and local schools, which help identify young people experiencing housing instability, the loss of a parent, or other major hardships.

The program pairs each teen with a deputy for a shopping trip aimed at building trust while meeting practical needs. Deputies say teens often purchase essentials such as clothing, toiletries, pillows, and comforters, along with gifts for siblings or other family members.

The Sheriff’s Office also noted that the Ten-24 Foundation is assisting again this year by managing tax-deductible donations from businesses and individuals across Putnam County. Walmart Palatka and store associates, long-time partners in the effort, continue to support the program as well.

Donations accepted include Visa gift cards, Walmart gift cards, cash, and checks. In-person drop-offs may be made at 1300 Orie Griffin Blvd. in Palatka. Mailed checks should be addressed to the Ten-24 Foundation with a memo indicating “Shop With a Deputy.” Officials ask donors not to mail cash. Those needing a tax receipt can include their name, contact number, and mailing address with their donation.
