Tallahassee, FL – Tropical Storm Debby is expected to strengthen as it heads northward over the Gulf of Mexico, potentially reaching hurricane status before making landfall on Florida’s Big Bend coast Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee has issued numerous warnings and urged residents to complete their storm preparations.
According to the NWS, Debby is anticipated to bring widespread rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches, with isolated areas potentially receiving up to 18 inches. The heaviest rainfalls are expected in eastern Florida’s Big Bend and south-central Georgia. Flood watches are in effect through Tuesday for these regions due to significant and life-threatening flash flooding risks.
Tropical Storm Warnings have been upgraded for Grady, Thomas, Brooks, and Lowndes Counties in Georgia. Residents along the Big Bend coast should prepare for tropical storm conditions beginning later this afternoon, extending into the evening and continuing through Monday.
