Tampa, FL – Florida residents are preparing for the impact of Tropical Storm Debby, which continues to move northward. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tampa Bay has issued warnings for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and significant storm surges. The storm, located at 25.6 N and 84.0 W, is advancing at a speed of 13 mph and is expected to affect Florida’s coastal areas through Monday.

According to the NWS, flooding rains of 6-12 inches are anticipated, with isolated areas receiving higher amounts. This heavy rainfall may lead to significant flooding and dangerous conditions, particularly in low-lying regions. The storm is expected to produce a storm surge of 4-7 feet in Levy County and 3-5 feet in Hernando and Citrus counties.

Residents should also prepare for tropical storm-force winds, with potential peak winds of 110 mph in some areas. The NWS warns that these winds could cause widespread damage, including downed trees and power lines, leading to power outages and blocked roads.
