Tallahassee, Florida – Strong to severe thunderstorms could hit the Florida Big Bend, far eastern Panhandle, and southern Georgia this afternoon and evening, bringing the threat of damaging wind gusts to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather remains in effect until late Sunday night, with damaging wind gusts as the main concern for local communities. While widespread severe weather isn’t expected, isolated storms may bring wind damage and possibly some small to medium hail.

Cities including Tallahassee, Quincy, Bainbridge, and Valdosta should prepare for rapidly changing weather, with storms most likely to develop from mid-afternoon into the evening. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during storms. Emergency managers recommend monitoring local alerts and charging devices ahead of potential power outages.

This risk area includes major roadways such as I-10 and US-27, which could see hazardous conditions during periods of heavy rain and gusty winds. Today’s storms mark the first severe threat for July in the region, though forecasters say hail risk remains low.

Storms will weaken after sunset, but brief strong winds remain possible through late evening. Stay tuned for further updates if additional advisories are issued.
