Melbourne, FL – Coastal communities across East Central Florida are under a Flood Watch and High Surf Advisory through Sunday, with hazardous conditions expected both on land and at the beaches.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, rounds of heavy rain will bring 1 to 3 inches along the coast, with localized totals up to 5 inches. Flooding of low-lying areas, swales, and roadways is possible, particularly in Daytona Beach, Melbourne, Vero Beach, and Port St. Lucie.
At the same time, strong onshore winds are fueling dangerous surf conditions. Breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet are forecast along all Atlantic beaches from Volusia County south to Martin County, leading to moderate beach and dune erosion. The advisory highlights a high risk of rip currents, urging swimmers to avoid the ocean and follow the instructions of lifeguards and beach patrols.
High tide today is expected between 4–7 p.m., when wave impacts will be most severe.
Inland cities including Orlando, Sanford, Leesburg, and Kissimmee will also see rain chances between 40–60% through Saturday night. While severe storms are not the primary threat, the main concerns remain localized flooding, rough surf, and coastal erosion.
Residents are urged to use caution when traveling, avoid flooded roadways, and stay informed through official updates.
