Miami, Florida – Sunshine and summerlike warmth continue across South Florida to close out the workweek, but beachgoers are being warned of dangerous conditions along the Atlantic coastline.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a high risk of rip currents remains in effect through Saturday evening for beaches stretching from Miami-Dade through Palm Beach County. Afternoon highs will reach 83°F to 85°F in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, while Naples may top out at 89°F under breezy, dry skies.
Lifeguards along the east coast are flying red flags as surf conditions become increasingly hazardous. Officials say a rip current risk greater than 50% means swimmers should avoid the water unless at guarded beaches. “When in doubt, don’t go out,” the NWS warned, urging visitors to heed signage and lifeguard instructions.
With warm weather drawing large crowds to the coast, the threat poses a particular risk to spring travelers and locals alike. The conditions are being driven by persistent easterly winds, typical during dry-season patterns in late April.
Rip current alerts remain in place until at least Saturday night, and additional advisories may be issued if winds stay elevated into Sunday.
