SANFORD, Fla. — As shoppers crowd Florida stores for holiday deals, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to stay alert and keep valuables secure this weekend.
Deputies issued a brief public advisory Friday morning urging residents to take basic precautions during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. The message stresses awareness, limiting distractions, and securing purchases out of sight.
Key reminders include:
- Keep purchases hidden in your trunk rather than visible in vehicles.
- Secure purses or carry wallets in a front pocket.
- Carry only one credit card while shopping.
- Stay alert and avoid using phones or other distractions in crowded areas.
Authorities say thieves often target unlocked cars or distracted shoppers during the holiday rush. Extra patrols are expected around major retail centers through the weekend.
The agency also encourages shoppers to remain aware of their surroundings, travel in pairs when possible, and report suspicious behavior to law enforcement.
