Tallahassee, Fla. – Damaging wind gusts and hail may threaten parts of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama late Wednesday as isolated severe thunderstorms develop across the tri-state region.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) is in effect Wednesday afternoon and evening for the Florida Big Bend, eastern Panhandle, southwest Georgia, and southeast Alabama. Cities including Tallahassee, Dothan, and Valdosta are within the risk zone, with storms likely between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET.

Storms will be scattered but could produce isolated wind gusts strong enough to down trees or power lines. Small to medium hail is also possible, especially in localized stronger cells. The risk follows a stretch of extreme heat, with many areas seeing highs in the upper 90s to near 100°F earlier this week.

Drivers should stay weather-aware during the evening commute, as quick-hitting storms could reduce visibility and cause isolated road hazards. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.

Storm chances taper off by late Wednesday night, but another round of summer storms may develop later this week.
