FLORENCE COUNTY, SC – A routine traffic stop for speeding turned into a major drug bust Thursday when deputies from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Criminal Enforcement Unit discovered more than 140 pounds of marijuana and THC wax inside an SUV.

According to officials, the stop occurred on Interstate 95 in Florence County on December 4, 2025. Deputies said they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle while speaking with its occupants.

A probable cause search revealed a large quantity of packaged marijuana and THC products inside the vehicle. Deputies arrested Juan Carlos Castillo-Quezada, 27, of Corning, California, and Creamy Urena, 29, of East Elmhurst, New York, both charged with Trafficking in Marijuana under S.C. Code Ann. 44-53-370(e)(1)(b).

The two suspects are being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

FCSO officials said the investigation remains active. Additional details and booking information can be found on the sheriff’s office website.
