Huntsville, Alabama – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect early this morning for portions of southern middle Tennessee, with significantly reduced visibility expected to impact travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the advisory includes Lincoln, Moore, and Franklin counties and remains in effect until 10 a.m. CST. Visibility in the advisory area may be reduced to one-quarter mile or less in some locations due to dense fog.

Forecasters say the fog developed overnight and is expected to persist through the morning hours before gradually improving later this morning. The greatest impacts are anticipated during the early morning commute, when visibility may change rapidly over short distances.

The National Weather Service urges motorists to exercise caution while driving in foggy conditions. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles. Sudden slowdowns or stopped traffic may be difficult to see until drivers are very close.

Dense fog can be especially dangerous on rural highways, near rivers and valleys, and in low-lying areas where visibility may drop quickly. Even brief periods of reduced visibility can increase the risk of accidents if drivers are not prepared.

The advisory is limited to southern middle Tennessee, but patchy fog may also be present in nearby areas of northern Alabama early this morning. Conditions are expected to improve as temperatures rise and mixing increases later in the morning.

Residents with early travel plans are encouraged to check road conditions and allow additional time to reach their destinations. Pilots and aviation interests should also be aware of potential impacts at regional airports during the advisory period.

Additional updates will be issued if fog persists longer than expected or expands into additional areas.
