Charleston, WV – A Flood Watch remains in effect through this evening for several regions in West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia as excessive rainfall continues to raise the risk of flash flooding. Creeks, streams, and low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable to flooding, with localized flash floods possible throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include parts of northeast Kentucky, including Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence counties, southeast Ohio’s Lawrence County, and southwest Virginia’s Buchanan and Dickenson counties. Also under threat are regions in West Virginia, including Boone, Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and parts of Raleigh and Wayne counties.

Residents are advised to stay alert, as the heavy rain is expected to cause excessive runoff, potentially flooding rivers, creeks, and streams. Low-lying and flood-prone areas are at an increased risk of flooding. “Flash flooding can occur quickly, so it’s essential to monitor updates and be ready to take action if warnings are issued,” says the NWS.

Flooding may result in road closures, especially along smaller roads and low-lying areas. Drivers are encouraged to avoid travel in these regions unless absolutely necessary.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until this evening, but more updates or advisories may follow depending on rainfall intensity and localized flooding reports. Stay tuned to local news and weather channels for further developments.
