Cincinnati, OH – A widespread Flood Watch has been issued across more than 60 counties in Ohio, Indiana, and northern Kentucky, with potential flooding concerns beginning Wednesday evening and continuing through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, heavy rainfall associated with a stalled boundary along the Ohio River will develop Wednesday night. Multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected, especially during the overnight hours through Saturday. The heaviest downpours are forecast between Thursday and Saturday evening.
Flood-prone areas, including creeks, rivers, low-lying neighborhoods, and poor drainage zones, may experience excessive runoff and water accumulation. The alert includes major metro areas such as Cincinnati, Columbus, and Dayton in Ohio; Richmond and Lawrenceburg in Indiana; and Covington and Florence in Kentucky.
Moist soil from prior rainfall will worsen runoff, increasing the chance of flash flooding and river rises. Residents are urged to monitor water levels and heed any future warnings or evacuation notices.
To prepare, avoid driving through flooded roads, secure basement belongings, and check local alerts daily. The flood threat is expected to taper off by early Sunday as the front shifts southeast and rain diminishes.
