Binghamton, NY – Oneida County is under a Flood Watch from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday as warm temperatures and heavy rain increase flood risks. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that melting snow, combined with 0.5 to 1.5 inches of rainfall, will elevate river levels and create ice jams.

According to the NWS, temperatures will climb into the upper 40s and mid-50s, accelerating snowmelt. Winds of 10-15 mph and high humidity will further contribute to runoff. Oneida County has the deepest snowpack in the region, making it the most vulnerable to flooding.

Officials expect some rivers and streams to approach flood stage. Ice jam formation could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. A final round of rain, possibly with thunderstorms, may worsen conditions late Wednesday.

Residents should monitor forecasts and prepare for potential flooding. Authorities advise moving valuables from basements and avoiding flooded roads. Emergency updates will be available through the NWS and local agencies.
