Baltimore, MD – A Flood Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. today for the Baltimore and Washington D.C. metro areas, with the National Weather Service (NWS) cautioning residents about the potential for flash flooding. The warning accompanies a Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms forecasted for the afternoon and evening hours, with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the severe weather risk will impact regions east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with areas shaded in yellow on the weather map facing the highest risk of severe storms. Those in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. areas are urged to remain vigilant as heavy rainfall could lead to rapid water level rises, especially in low-lying and flood-prone regions.

The Flood Watch highlights the possibility of excessive runoff, which may result in flash flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and underpasses. Residents are encouraged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to seek higher ground if necessary.
