Columbia, SC – Flooding along Stevens Creek near Modoc is causing minor flooding, with the warning now extended until late Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service issued the update on Monday evening, urging residents and travelers in McCormick and Edgefield counties to stay vigilant.
The flood stage for Stevens Creek is set at 19 feet, and as of 9:00 PM Monday, the river level was measured at 19.7 feet. The water is expected to crest at 22.8 feet just after midnight. Areas around the US Highway 23 bridge near Modoc and Martintown Road are most at risk. Residents near the Riverhills subdivision are advised to take precautions to protect life and property.
The National Weather Service also reminded the public to avoid traveling in the affected areas, especially at night, as flooded roadways may be difficult to spot. If encountering a flooded road, remember to “turn around, don’t drown.” Flood warnings are typically issued when conditions pose a threat to public safety, and the NWS urges residents to stay informed as the situation develops.
