Pee Dee, SC – Minor flooding along the Great Pee Dee River continues to impact Marion and Florence counties, with water levels remaining above flood stage, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington.
As of 9 a.m. Friday, the river measured 21.9 feet, surpassing the flood stage of 19.0 feet. Forecasts indicate that water levels will gradually decline, expected to fall below flood stage by Monday afternoon and drop to 15.9 feet by Wednesday morning.
At 23.0 feet, flooding affects nearby swamps and timberlands, disrupting logging operations. Some farmland, particularly around Britton Neck, is also experiencing minor flooding. Residents and businesses in the area should remain cautious and avoid flooded roads.
The NWS advises that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles and urges drivers to turn around if they encounter water-covered roads. Updates will be issued as conditions change.
