Flood Alerts Issued Across Louisiana and Mississippi as River Levels Rise

New Orleans, LA – Several flood warnings are in effect for rivers in Louisiana and Mississippi as rainstorms continue to impact the region. Authorities urge caution near water bodies and flooded areas.

In Mississippi, the National Weather Service has issued a warning for West Hobolochitto Creek near McNeil in Pearl River County. Minor flooding is currently occurring, with forecasts predicting river levels will peak at 15.6 feet before receding. Motorists are advised to avoid flooded areas and follow barricade signs. The creek is expected to remain above flood stage until tomorrow afternoon, with some secondary roads likely to become impassable.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi River at Red River Landing is expected to cause major flooding, impacting West Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, and Pointe Coupee Parishes. The river is forecasted to crest at 57.5 feet by April 23 and will remain above flood stage until May 4. Local farmland, including areas around Angola, is anticipated to flood as the river continues to rise.

In Louisiana’s St. Tammany Parish, the Bogue Chitto River near Bush has also reached flood stage, affecting roads and woodlands. Minor flooding is expected to continue through Thursday morning, impacting local access roads and recreational areas.
