Lexington, KY – A Flood Watch has been issued for much of central and southern Kentucky, including Lexington, Louisville, and Bowling Green, as heavy rain is expected to bring potential flooding through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, excessive rainfall could lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. The watch is in effect from late Friday night until early Sunday, covering counties such as Fayette, Jefferson, Warren, and Madison.
Forecasters warn that storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris, increasing the risk of flash flooding. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant and prepare for possible evacuations if conditions worsen.
The heaviest rainfall is expected overnight Friday into Saturday, with some areas potentially receiving several inches of rain. Authorities advise avoiding travel on flooded roadways and to never drive through standing water.
Officials recommend monitoring updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies. Those in flood-prone areas should have an emergency plan in place and be ready to take action if conditions deteriorate.
