Tallahassee, FL – A Flood Watch has been issued for North Florida and South Georgia, with heavy rainfall expected to bring up to 8 inches in some areas through late Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, the storm system is expected to deliver widespread rain totals of 2 to 4 inches, with localized areas seeing as much as 5 to 8 inches. This excessive rainfall could lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, urban locations, and along rivers and streams.

Counties under the Flood Watch in Florida include Leon, Madison, Jackson, Walton, and Liberty, while affected areas in Georgia include Lowndes, Thomas, Decatur, and Brooks. Forecasters warn that there is a 10% chance of exceeding the higher rainfall totals, which could cause significant water rises in smaller creeks and streams.

Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and prepare for potential flooding. Those in flood-prone areas should have an emergency plan and avoid driving through water-covered roads.
