PORTLAND, OR – The National Weather Service in Portland has extended flood advisories for several counties across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington through Wednesday morning as heavy rain continues to soak the region.
Forecasters said urban and small stream flooding remains ongoing, with 4 to 7 inches of rain already reported across parts of the Coast Range and lower Columbia River Valley. Another 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected overnight, prolonging flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
The advisories include Clatsop, Tillamook, Yamhill, and Columbia counties in Oregon, and Cowlitz, Pacific, Wahkiakum, Clark, and Skamania counties in Washington.
Flooding has been reported on rural highways, city streets, and small creeks. The weather service said rapid rises on streams such as the Trask, Nehalem, and Grays Rivers may lead to additional flooding through early Wednesday.
The agency urged drivers to use caution, avoid flooded roadways, and remember the safety slogan: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
Rain is expected to taper off by late Wednesday morning, allowing water levels to gradually recede.
