Paducah, KY – A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for western Kentucky through Sunday morning as heavy rain moves into the area tonight. Rainfall totals of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are anticipated, with localized amounts reaching up to 3 inches, raising concerns for isolated flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, rain will begin late Saturday evening, intensifying overnight. Creeks and streams, already running high due to recent precipitation, may overflow, especially in low-lying areas. Drivers on I-24 and surrounding roads should exercise caution as ponding and hydroplaning risks will increase. Avoid driving through flooded roadways, and have an alternate route ready.

Sunday Forecast: Showers will linger Sunday morning before clearing, with a high of 59°F and calmer conditions by evening. Partly cloudy skies are expected Sunday night, with lows around 40°F.

Extended Outlook: Monday will be dry and partly sunny with highs near 53°F, but rain could return Monday night into Tuesday. Cooler air is expected by New Year’s Eve, with daytime highs falling to the low 40s. Overnight temperatures could drop to the 30s, bringing a chill to New Year’s Day celebrations.

Residents should monitor updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service. Prepare for potential delays if traveling and keep weather-appropriate gear on hand for the week ahead.
