Binghamton, NY — The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are poised to bring significant weather challenges to Binghamton and surrounding areas. Arriving early Friday morning, the system is expected to deliver heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms, creating a substantial risk for flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton, the Flash Flood Watch will be in effect from 8 a.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, as Debby’s remnants track over the region. The main concern is flash flooding, particularly in areas with creeks, streams, and urban drainage systems. River flooding, while still possible, is considered a lesser threat.

Residents should also prepare for the potential of severe thunderstorms, with strong gusty winds and isolated tornadoes possible as the storm passes. The heaviest rainfall is expected Friday evening into the night.

The weather is expected to clear by Saturday morning, with Binghamton seeing sunny skies and a high of 77°F. Cooler, more stable weather will follow, with temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to low 70s throughout the weekend and into the next week.
