Lincoln, IL – Flash flooding is occurring across central Illinois early Saturday morning, with significant rain causing dangerous conditions in Logan, Mason, and Menard counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Flash Flood Warning until 5:15 AM CDT, as heavy thunderstorms continue to dump between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain in the affected areas. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is possible within the next hour.

According to NWS Lincoln, the worst of the flooding will affect small creeks, streets, underpasses, and low-lying areas in cities like Lincoln, Greenview, Elkhart, and Broadwell. Drivers are urged to avoid traveling on flooded roads, especially at night when visibility is reduced.

A similar warning is in effect for northwestern Menard County until 5:00 AM CDT. Radar data suggests that rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will continue in Petersburg, Oakford, and Atterberry.

Flash flooding could lead to significant disruptions on local roads and highways, making travel dangerous. As heavy rains persist, residents should stay vigilant and take precautions, especially when encountering flooded areas.
