Springfield, MO – A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for southeastern Howell and Oregon counties in south-central Missouri. The warning is set to remain in effect until 2:45 AM CDT Saturday, April 5, 2025.

At 6:52 PM CDT Friday, the National Weather Service reported that heavy thunderstorms have been dumping between 1.5 and 4 inches of rain across the warned area, with additional rainfall expected. Some locations could see another 1.5 to 4 inches of rain in the coming hours. Radar indicates that flash flooding is either ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

Hazards include life-threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and underpasses. Residents in areas like Thayer, Alton, Koshkonong, Brandsville, Thomasville, Couch, Rover, and Greer should take immediate precautions. Specific low water crossings, such as Piney Creek at County Road 228 and Spring River at Highway 142, are at significant risk of flooding.

Authorities urge residents to avoid flooded roads, especially at night when it is harder to assess flood dangers. Those living in hilly terrain should be aware of the many potentially dangerous low-water crossings.

According to radar data, the rainfall rate could reach up to 2 inches per hour, significantly increasing the threat of flash flooding in the affected areas.
