St. Louis, MO – A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of southeastern Illinois, including Bond, Clinton, Fayette, and Marion counties, until 12:15 AM CDT Saturday. The National Weather Service reports that thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are already causing flash flooding in the area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen, with an additional 2 to 4 inches possible.

According to radar, flash flooding is already occurring in low-lying areas, urban streets, and along small creeks and streams. Locations expected to be affected include Centralia, Salem, Vandalia, Breese, Carlyle, St. Elmo, and others. Additionally, the Carlyle Lake Recreational Area is included in the warning.

Key highways, including sections of Interstates 64, 70, and 57, are at risk of flooding. The National Weather Service advises residents to avoid driving through flooded roads and to take necessary precautions in affected areas.

Flash flooding may lead to hazardous travel conditions and potential property damage. Authorities urge residents to stay alert and heed any evacuation or road closure orders.
