Quad Cities, IA/IL – A Flash Flood Warning is in effect until 9:15 a.m. CDT Sunday for areas including Washington, Sigourney, and Columbus Junction in Iowa. Heavy rainfall from ongoing thunderstorms has caused rapid water accumulation, increasing the risk of flash flooding in these regions.
According to the National Weather Service, rain rates of 2+ inches per hour are leading to dangerous conditions on local roadways and low-lying areas. These areas, already impacted by saturated soil, face the possibility of flooding streets, rural roads, and other flood-prone zones.
Residents are urged to move immediately to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Flash floods can escalate quickly, making travel extremely hazardous. Areas of concern include Washington, Sigourney, Keota, and Columbus City. With a combined population of over 20,000 people, these communities are at significant risk.
The storm is expected to persist into the morning, with more rainfall possibly adding to the flood danger. Be prepared for the continuation of this threat through at least Sunday morning, and stay tuned for further advisories or updates.
