Raleigh, N.C. – Central North Carolina could see flash flooding through early Friday as slow-moving thunderstorms drop heavy rain on already saturated ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a Flood Watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. Friday for 21 counties, including Wake, Durham, Cumberland, Guilford, and Forsyth. Storms capable of producing torrential rainfall may cause creeks and urban areas to flood rapidly, especially in places that were inundated earlier this week by remnants of Tropical Storm Chantal.

Localized flooding is possible in low-lying roads, underpasses, and neighborhoods with poor drainage, especially in cities like Raleigh, Greensboro, Fayetteville, and Rocky Mount. Area rivers and streams are already running high, increasing the likelihood of overflow.

Drivers should avoid water-covered roadways and be prepared for detours. Residents in flood-prone areas are advised to move valuables off floors and charge devices in case of power disruptions.

The flood threat will taper off by Friday morning, but additional warnings could be issued if storms redevelop overnight. Updates will continue as conditions evolve.
