Lubbock, TX – A flash flood warning remains active across Lubbock, TX, today, with officials urging residents to stay cautious on the roads. The National Weather Service reports up to 2.3 inches of rain has already fallen across the area, with more heavy rain expected throughout the day. Conditions are set to impact major routes, including local roadways near Texas Tech University and areas surrounding Lubbock International Airport. Motorists should avoid any low-lying roads, underpasses, and intersections prone to water accumulation.

According to the National Weather Service, radar data shows that thunderstorms are causing moderate to heavy rainfall over Southeastern Hockley, Lubbock, Northwestern Lynn, and Northeastern Terry counties. Officials caution drivers to “Turn around, don’t drown,” when encountering flooded streets, as even a few inches of water can lead to hazardous conditions.

Forecast models indicate that Lubbock could see additional rainfall of up to 1 inch later today. Areas around Wolfforth, Shallowater, and New Deal are particularly at risk for flash flooding in poor drainage areas, where roadways may become impassable. To minimize risks, residents are encouraged to avoid travel when possible, especially near Reese Center and Slide.

In addition to today’s weather, showers are likely to continue through early next week. The current five-day forecast shows rain tapering off by Tuesday, but isolated thunderstorms may develop again by mid-week. Residents should monitor local news and weather updates, as conditions may change rapidly, impacting local infrastructure and road safety.
