Louisville, KY – Flash flood warnings have been extended across central and south-central Kentucky, including Glasgow, Elizabethtown, and surrounding counties, as heavy rainfall continues through early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, up to 5 inches of rain have already fallen in the affected areas as of 1:29 a.m. EST, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch expected before the warning expires at 7:45 a.m. EST. Flooding is ongoing or imminent, impacting small creeks, streams, highways, streets, and low-lying areas.
Counties under the warning include Hardin, Barren, Adair, Casey, Green, Hart, and several others. Cities such as Liberty, Columbia, Tompkinsville, and Radcliff are expected to see significant flooding impacts.
Residents are urged to avoid driving on flooded roads, especially at night when visibility is reduced. The National Weather Service advises turning around when encountering water on the road, noting that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
With water levels rising quickly, residents are advised to stay informed through local alerts and prepare for potential evacuations if conditions worsen.
