Flagstaff, Arizona – Drivers across northern Arizona’s high country should prepare for slick roads and difficult travel starting late Wednesday as multiple rounds of snow spread across the region and intensify Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for much of northern and northeastern Arizona, including the Mogollon Rim, Kaibab Plateau, Black Mesa, Chuska Mountains, and the White Mountains. Snow showers will develop Wednesday evening in far northeastern Arizona, followed by heavier snow Thursday afternoon across higher elevations above 6,500 feet.

In the Flagstaff area, Williams, Munds Park, and along the I-40 corridor, snow totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected by Thursday evening, with locally higher amounts near the Mogollon Rim and Grand Canyon North Rim. Winds gusting up to 40 mph may cause blowing snow and rapidly changing visibility during heavier bursts.

Heavier accumulations are likely in the White Mountains, where Pinetop-Lakeside and Alpine could see 6 to 8 inches, with locally higher totals. Travel is discouraged in these areas as snow-covered roads and low visibility develop, especially Thursday afternoon and evening.

Across Black Mesa, the Chuska Mountains, and the Defiance Plateau, higher terrain above 7,500 feet could pick up 8 to 12 inches by late Thursday, while lower elevations see lighter totals.

Drivers are urged to slow down, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall, and check az511.gov for road conditions. Advisories remain in effect through late Thursday, and additional updates are possible as snowfall intensifies.
