FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona is waking up to a sharp fall chill this week as cold air grips the high country before a sunny, mild weekend emerges. Early Thursday brings freezing temperatures near 25°F around the San Francisco Peaks and across the I-40 corridor, where drivers should watch for patchy frost during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, clear skies and calm winds will dominate through Saturday as temperatures slowly rebound. Highs climb from the upper 50s Thursday to the mid-60s Saturday, then near 67°F by Sunday. Nights will remain cold, dipping into the 20s and low 30s, which could damage outdoor plants and sprinkler systems. Residents are advised to cover sensitive vegetation and disconnect hoses before sunset.

Friday begins a stretch of picture-perfect fall weather—light winds, abundant sunshine, and comfortable afternoons. The weekend looks ideal for leaf-peeping drives along Lake Mary Road or visiting area pumpkin patches. Winds pick up slightly Sunday afternoon as a weak system approaches but no rain is expected.

Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday stay clear and mild before a slight cooling trend midweek. Fall foliage across Coconino County is nearing its peak, and this weekend’s clear skies will offer prime conditions for both photography and travel.
