Flagstaff, Ariz. – Northern Arizona will see mostly dry and seasonal conditions through the weekend before monsoon moisture brings back a higher risk of thunderstorms early next week. A few isolated mountain showers are possible Sunday, especially across the White Mountains.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, storm chances increase significantly beginning Monday, with scattered thunderstorms expected each afternoon through Wednesday. Rainfall could be heavy at times, creating the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas and along burn scars.

Temperatures will remain typical for late August, with highs near 79 in Flagstaff, 87 in Prescott, and low 90s in Sedona and Payson through midweek. By Wednesday, cooler highs in the upper 70s to mid-80s are expected in the higher elevations as storms become more widespread. Northerly winds will stay light, generally between 5 and 15 mph.

Travelers should watch for slick roads and reduced visibility during heavier downpours, especially along Interstates 17 and 40. Residents are encouraged to avoid low-water crossings, secure outdoor items, and monitor for updated advisories as rain chances grow stronger into midweek.

Thunderstorm activity is expected to continue beyond Wednesday as monsoon moisture lingers.
