Flagstaff, Arizona – Warm and dry conditions are expected to return across northern Arizona this afternoon, bringing temperatures well above normal and breezy southwest winds that may affect travel and outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, afternoon highs on Monday will run 5 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s in higher elevations, with 70s and low 80s possible in lower desert communities.

Southwest winds are expected to increase through the afternoon, sustained at 5 to 15 mph, with occasional higher gusts possible. These winds may be most noticeable along major travel corridors including Interstate 40, Interstate 17, U.S. Route 180, and historic Route 66, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Dry air and warm temperatures will help maintain favorable driving conditions, though motorists should remain alert for localized crosswinds on open highways and elevated terrain. The mild weather may be especially noticeable for commuters, long-haul drivers, and outdoor workers, as winter conditions continue to ease across much of the region.

The NWS notes that the continued dry pattern limits precipitation chances through the early part of the week. While no immediate fire weather warnings are in effect, residents are encouraged to remain cautious with outdoor activities that could generate sparks, especially in grassy or brush-covered areas.

Mountain snowpack will continue to slowly melt during the daytime hours, which could lead to damp spots on shaded roadways during the evening and overnight hours as temperatures cool.

Forecasters expect similar conditions to persist into the next few days, with mild afternoons and cool nights remaining the dominant pattern across northern Arizona.

Residents are advised to stay updated on local forecasts and plan for changing wind conditions during the afternoon hours.
