Flagstaff, Arizona – Rain and snow showers are expected to develop across northern Arizona Friday, with snow levels ranging between 7,000 and 8,000 feet, potentially affecting travel along Interstate 40 and Interstate 17.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, slightly cooler and breezy conditions are in place today, with the best chance for showers focused over the Kaibab Plateau. Thursday is expected to remain mainly dry and slightly warmer before a stronger system moves in Friday.

Forecast guidance indicates widespread shower chances Friday across the Mogollon Rim, Kaibab Plateau, White Mountains, and areas near Flagstaff and Williams. Snow accumulation is expected mainly above 7,000 to 8,000 feet, while lower elevations including Prescott and Camp Verde are more likely to see rain. Rainfall totals below the snow level could reach up to 0.25 inches in some locations.

Drivers traveling along I-40 between Williams and Flagstaff, along I-17 near Munds Park, and on US-89 north of Flagstaff should prepare for changing conditions, particularly during heavier shower bands. Snow-covered roadways may develop at higher elevations Friday afternoon and evening.

Windy conditions could also reduce visibility at times, especially across exposed stretches of highway.

While snowfall amounts are not expected to be significant at lower elevations, higher terrain travel could become slick. College students, commuters, and outdoor recreation visitors heading into the mountains Friday should monitor updates closely.
