Flagstaff, Arizona – Strong winds and accumulating mountain snow are expected across northern Arizona through Tuesday, creating hazardous travel conditions in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, south winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts between 40 and 50 mph will impact much of the region. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for areas where gusts exceed 40 mph, particularly across higher terrain.
In addition, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for elevations above 6,500 feet across the Kaibab Plateau, Mogollon Rim and White Mountains. Snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches are expected, with 3 to 8 inches possible over the highest peaks. Snow is forecast to develop later Monday evening and continue through Tuesday.
Blowing snow and strong crosswinds may reduce visibility and create slick road conditions along Interstate 40, U.S. Highway 180 and State Route 87. Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use caution, especially in exposed areas.
Communities including Flagstaff, Show Low and areas near the Grand Canyon could see the most significant impacts.
The combination of gusty winds and accumulating snow may affect Tuesday commuters and mountain travel plans.
